This monastery was built to celebrate the victory of the portuguese army over the castilians, in the battle of Aljubarrota, in 1385. Nuno Álvares Pereira (that´s him ridding a horse in that statue)was the commander of the portuguese troops. On the left, you can see a group of spanish school children. WATCH OUT SPANISH CHILDREN!!
