Outside the small village of Azaruja, there´s this small chapel with the walls covered with hundreds of ex-votos from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. There are still pilgrinages held today, inspite of the ancient houses around the chapell beeing part of a laid back hotel with a natural swimming pool (with frogs and fish and no chemicals) and a self-service bar. When I visited the chapel, there was a woman praying inside. I wonder how they conciliate a place of devotion with a hotel...
That´s human hair under the glass, and the skin of a big snake on the wall. I wonder why the skin of a tropical snake ended up in a place of devotion instead of a museum...
